Basic potting shed design
A potting shed does not have to be complex or fancy. It can be a very simple building. At minimum it needs to hold your gardening supplies and tools. Your shed doesn't really even have to be big enough for you to enter it. If you do plan on your shed being large enough to enter, my advice is to install a window as natural light source this will make the space more pleasant. Sunlight is a big advantage if you plan on spending time potting inside the shed.

Special shelving for storing pots, seeds, and soil will be useful. Also, plan a book shelf for any gardening books, magazines, or growing guides. It goes without saying that a potting bench should be in your plans. When you build your own potting shed you can determine the height you want your bench to be; they are usually thirty-four inches.
Potting shed plans for extras
One of the best things about gardening is being outdoors. You can extend your shed's roof to make an overhang and install a potting bench underneath. This will make a great place to use as small sheds can get quite hot in the summer. Installing a pegboard over your potting bench and inside the shed keeps those many loose small tools straight. It is also important to plan a wall for hanging large tools. Leaning them all in a corner is not efficient or safe.
Different plants like different soils. You will want to have perlite, vermiculite, sand, and potting soil available. The same goes for fertilizer. Having an area designed to store these is a good idea. I recommend using Rubbermaid containers rather than hanging on to the original bags. Buy matching stackable containers to save space. Consider having running water at your shed. A nearby hose will make for the ideal place to wash off tools before putting them away, not to mention watering-in newly planted seedlings.
While not a necessity, running electricity to your shed is something to think about. You may want to keep a small refrigerator for storing bulbs long term and for cold drinks! Having light available for those after dark planting projects is useful as well.
Another wonderful idea is a small cold frame against the sunniest side of your potting shed. Use some old windows as the lid. You can also buy pains of glass if need be. Cold frames will help you jump start your growing season.
